WHEN LIVING WITH AN INVISIBLE ILLNESS WHAT’S WORSE, THE “INVISIBLE” OR THE “ILLNESS”?
The fear of vomiting can make people feel anything from a mild jittery sensation (butterflies in the stomach) to physically sick.
Barry tends to get more anxious when he imagines he might vomit, and that worsens the sensation of anxiety, making it all the more likely to happen. The fear of getting sick makes the situation worse.
The thoughts in Barry’s head just keep looping around, What if I get sick right here and now? What would I do? What would people think of me?
Social settings are the worst for Barry, rather than when they’re home, because he feels he doesn’t have a safe place to retreat and feels exposed to social embarrassment.
The stress of it might happen was bad enough, and when it does… well it has happened twice, and each time the feelings just get worse, it’s getting that I just don’t want to leave the house unless I absolutely have to.
I was talking with my friend Mary about how hard it was getting dealing with it. Mary told me she has a friend who had their fear removed in one simple painless session. The friend was afraid of crowds. Why is it so simple to fix, I asked. She said it only required simple phobia therapy, which, if done correctly, can remove the phobia in one easy painless session.
I almost stopped breathing. Just one simple session and I no longer would be paralysed by the thought I might vomit?
I have no idea why I’d never heard of it before, but it worked. After my first session, the fear was completely gone, I can remember I used to be scared witless, but it just doesn’t trigger any emotion any more.
I’m not going to say I never give vomiting a thought. I do. Then I realise how relieved I am, and I thank Mary once again for telling me about this amazing simple painless process.
